...and pop ups? I have a rather "old" HP computer from 2002. It has been working fine up until the about November of last year. It than started to run very slow on start up and whenever I drag the cursor across the screen some type of pop up would come up that wasn't even advertised on the page I was on. Other times I would be surfing and the browser would just disappear. I have Norton and use it every week with instant updates. I use CC cleaner once a week which usually gets rid of 20MB minimun. I recently started using Spybot and got a "ton" of stuff there. I also get "corrupt file" come up occasionally on the bar on the bottom. I'm not sure if the hard drive is just bogged down or if I need to reformat my hard drive? I recently lost the ability for my HP Image Zone software to automatically pop up when I connect my digital camera. I have to click on the "L drive" for my pics to pop up now. Is it necessary to get a new computer or save what I can on my flash drive, reformat everything, and start from scratch? What do you think? Thanks
I run CC Cleaner once a week now so I guess I'll start going to one a day. I like the idea of getting a new desktop but I also think a laptop would be just as beneficial. Thanks for the advise from everyone.

well the main problem you have here is the computer. its old - VERY old. thats one reason why it is going wrong. computers last for rouglhty 3-4 years before they start to have problems.
another thing your computer may have are viruses or spy/ad aware. you need to use ccleaner every time you finish using your browser. and you nned to a virus scan at least once week with a spyware scan and an ad-aware scan too. you may have a virus and Norton just hasn't picked it up. not viruses do get picked up - with or without updates.

basically, throw out your old computer and get a new one. it will be alot ceaper in the long run.

you can get malwarebytes anti malware free, then run a disk clean up and make sure you delete all the files in the temp folder, then defrag.

When you use Spybot, make sure you have it correct the problems it finds.

You also should try Malwarebytes, another good free program for fixing up problems like you describe. www.malwarebytes.org (I used it to clean up a friend's PC when Spybot and Norton hadn't helped).

You need to buy a new computer, if not then upgrade the one you have.
The newer software (alot of what Im talking about it automatic updates through windows) that comes out requires alot more power then your pc has to offer. But until then, I would increase the level of my security on my browser. Maybe make a switch to firefox instead of IE, firefox will let you specify whether or not to dump all cookies and temporary internet files, each time you close it (these files contain a ton of spyware). Also, go to control panel, and defrag your harddrive, that could make things a bit faster.
