Why is he avoiding PDA?

Okay, so my best friend and I have had a sort-of "friends with benefits" relationship for a couple of months, but have just recently decided to make it official.
Now that we're together, it's a lot more toned down.
I mean, it was never anything that sexual to begin with, but we don't hold hands anymore, we don't hug as much as we used to, and he's not as affectionate as he used to be.
He still kisses me everyday.
Before, our relationship was more of a secret.
His our friends HATE each other.
His friends are hip-hop, gangster, whatever, and mine are more of a mix of all the cliques.
Now that we're public, could he be avoiding pda because of our friends?
Any thoughts on why this might be?

and talk to him about
its a relationship right?

it could be his friends or it could just be him and maybe being "OFFICIAL" could be a big deal to him, so just try to understand for a while because he could have his reasons and if he continues to avoid "pda" then talk to him about it.
