Why is internet in the UK so slow?

Tryed different service providers on different computers from friends and family and are all slow. Even some internet cafes are slow. Why is this? I've tryed to ring the service providers when it gets to bad but everytime i have given up waiting over 20min for them to answer.

I think these companies need to stop trying to get more customers and actually sort their services out because its pathetic! Virgin, BT, 3...the lot.

Depends- where is it exactly slow? is it while surfing the internet, or when running programs? either way, you can make it go faster. By following these steps 1 .Switch to a different browser
2.Remove unwanted add-ons, extensions, and plugins 3.Close unused tabs 4.Allow (some) cookies and caching and 5 you should scan your computer for viruses and spyware using suitable program. Once you did all these ,check out your internet speed test here http://www.scanmyspeed.com/on-your-site/ Hope your Internet speed will be quite better than before.
