It was working fine last week. Is it just because it is so awfully hot outside or is something going wrong with it? Should I have it checked out?

check your cabin fliter most of the time located behind the glove box. it could be clogged and dirty.

Try getting some refrigerant. It can be bought at a local auto zone.
If that doesn't work take it to a shop.

Does it not blow cold at all or just cool?If it just blows cool and it is around 100 degrees outside then there's the problem. Lets say your riding down the highway and the ambient temperature outside is 100 degrees and the road surface is 120 degrees the condenser is in front of the radiator so all the air coming in is hot.I'm not going to bore you with the technical details of how an automobile a/c system works. When the refrigerant passes through the condenser it is a liquid and it works pretty much the same way the radiator does it gets cooled off and recirculated back through the system but.Now on a really hot day like we have in the south it the outside air can only cool it down so far before it circulates through the system again. So if it only blows cool air there is your problem. If it blows hot I would suggest taking it and have the system leak tested and go from there. Before you go and start spending money on R-134 that you may not need in most cases that will cause more problems in the long run such as having the system overfilled

Their is probably a leak and your slowly losing freon. Having just freon added is a waste of money seeing it will eventualy leak out. If your lucky having a sealant added might stop leak for awhile.
