Why is my Blackberry flip phone receiving txt's late?

I have cleared the event log, reset, etc. I will be txting some friends and then I get a huge long pause that can last for hours then BAM I get all these txt's at one time. Idk why this is happening lately. Its driving me nuts! what can I do? My service provider is Alltel and its a Blackberry flip.
