Pump whine is usually caused by air trapped in the system. With the engine running, turn your steering wheel lock to lock 5-6 times and the whining should subside. Do this every time that you start the car. It may take a few days to go away completely. If it doesn't, it's a problem in the pump.

i have a 2000 camaro ss, i recently bought a new power steering pump and a pressure hose. i still hear the whining when i turn or let alone just drive straight.. it is really annoying and i would like some advice. i also changed the fluids in the power steering pump. no results have improved.
