Why is my SUV shaking?

I was riding on the highway and all the sudden I felt my 2008 Ford Escape shaking all over. I pulled over and checked the tires which were fine then I drove a little more and it was still shaking. I pulled over again and opened the gas cap and closed it then I turned the engine off and restarted it. It was not shaking anymore. I am scared it is not fixed. Does anyone know what happened?

I realize that it has been quite some time since this post, but where you able to find the solution to your problem? My problem with my 2008 Escape sounds very similar.
