[QUOTE="concerned_earthling, post: 2338787, member: 388295"] ...freedom of religion? Why is polygamy or bigamy illegal in the USA? Does the right to practice a religion have limits? *(other than semi obvious things like human sacrifice) Why are these limits there? Catholics are suppose to prohibit divorce yet divorce is allowed in the USA and even Catholics are allowed to get divorced as far as the law is concerned. Are Jews allowed to perform goat/sheep/lamb sacrifices? I am not certain if orthodox Jews perform such sacrifices other than Jesus representing the blood of the lamb and as such is a substitute for this sacrifice. If in the USA there is suppose to be a separation of state & religion or to say it differently the government is not suppose to endorse any religion nor stop the practice of any religion then why is polygamy prohibited if it is a condoned practice of some religions. Given that some religions allow polygamy would refusing them that be prohibiting the practice of their religion? Bill of rights Constitution 1st amendment Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
