Why is the British music scene so backwards?

Ok, so I'm into a whole range of stuff, from extreme symphonic metal to trance to jazz, so I'm not exactly closed minded about music.

But it seems to me that British music seems to be saturated by undertalented twunts with stupid over-exaggerated Northern accents and awful, simplistic musicianship. Why is this the case, and why do so many people carry on accepting the same rubbish on the radio, over and over? I've even noticed some Americans moaning about British imported music, if it upsets people that far away there must be something seriously wrong with Britian's musical output.
Oh and by the way I was including NME and scuzz, etc. in all the bullsh*t

Do you make music as well as consuming it? Best to have tried before rubbishing something you know nothing about (if you don't make music).
If you don't want to compare apples w. oranges it would be more sensible to compare major States like NY or CA w. Britian, everyone seems to be at a bit of an impasse currently to me although several newish bands are rehashing old stuff w. some originality. So how about leading the way if you're so concerned about 'moaning Americans,' give us the new Rock and Roll Mr. Forwards!
