Why is the Dead Poets Society so disapproved of?

I really don't know whether it is disapproved of here in Europe I have never read or heard anything of the sort. Anyhow it is a fantastic movie with great performances. The subject of the movie might seem a little controversial in the eyes of some stiff necked school directors or people without an inner life.
Any criticism of this movie is absolutely "bull" I have seen it maybe 5 or 6 times and enjoy it more and more.

It has been a while since I last saw the movie, but I believe it was because it went against the school's traditions and even school's rules. Their teacher encouraged his students to think big, to challenge everything and to think deeper and to find the deeper meaning of literature. I believe that the board of the college found that to be threatening.

That's why I think it was. But I could be wrong as well. It has been a while after all.
