Why Norton blocking my internet?

Last night my internet browsers just did not work on this computer, and i tried shutting norton off and that solved the problem. This is a very basic norton, came with my computer. I have AVG 8, but with norton shut off i have no firewall. Any ideas of how to keep norton on while still having the internet running? By the way, it IS the computer's problem, not my router. My laptop and xbox 360 connect to the internet just fine.
