Recently I haven't been driving much; less than once per day and for short distances. Less than a week ago I went to start my car and it wouldn't start. It had been starting a little slower and more rough than normal and it finally stopped starting all together. After a jump, I took it to an Advance Auto where I had the battery and alternator checked and both were said to be fine. I then drove it around briefly, filled up with gas, and came home. Over the next few days I made sure to drive around but it would always just barely start. Yesterday, when I went to start it, it was dead again. Once again, I jumped it and went back over to Advance Auto and bought a trickle charger (1 amp). I went to start the car again later that night and it didn't start. Between today and last night I charged the battery for about 8 hours. I didn't realize it when I bought it but it's not an automatic charger (doesn't stop when battery is fully charged) so I have to keep tabs on it. After the 8 hours, I tried to start it again to no avail. I jumped it once again and then hopped on the interstate and drove about 40-50 miles total. When I came back home, I turned it off and tried to turn it back on and it wouldn't start. I realize that 8 hours might not be enough to charge the battery but it seems like the jump and the driving would be enough to allow it to start on its own. I'm leaving it to charge overnight this time.
If that doesn't work (and I don't expect it to), what should I do?
Is it possible that the battery could have gone bad between the time it was checked at Advance Auto and now?
