Okay, my husband is using the nicotine patch to stop using nicotine lozenges (He can't stop by using the lozenges). Hopefully the patches will help him quit nicotine forever. He had me hide the patches a few days ago because he was tempted to cut one in half and put it somewhere on his body where I wouldn't see it. So I did. So, I've been getting him a new patch every night. Tonight, I cut a new one open, and I caught a whiff of ammonia. I smelled the patch, and it smelled so strongly of ammonia that my nose burned. Neither of us has ever smelled a patch before, so we don't know if this is normal. We threw it away and I opened another. There was no ammonia odor from a distance, but when I held it close to my nose I could smell it. So, is this what a nicotine patch should smell like? Did we get a bad batch? Please only answer if you know for sure what one should smell like. We're using our local drugstore's brand of patch, and it's the clear kind. Step one.
