I just bought a Phillips DVD-3140 DVD player that will playback Divx encoded AVI files. I sometimes find Divx files available at 720p resolutions - will these look better on my HDTV, or is the DVD output limited to the 480p resolution of standard DVDs? Is it worth downloading the bigger 720p avi files?
I am using component cables - the picture quality is excellent, though its not easily possible to do a side by side comparison with a lower quality AVI file of the same movie. I wonder if 1080 Blu-Rays converted to AVI will playback similarly - effectively turning a $40 Divx player into the output equivallent of a Blu-Ray machine? It seems too good to be true.
