Ive got a HD TV,V+ Box and a DVD player with upscalling, plus ive got well over 600 DVD's.
Now it looks like Toshiba have held up the white flag with HD DVD,I'm hoping the Blu-ray players will be a bit cheaper from now on,and more importantly the discs themselves.
I nearly brought a HD DVD player last summer,I feel sorry for the people who paid out good money only to be let down.

I think it will be at least 5 years before blu ray has totally replaced the plain dvd. I totally agree about the poor folks who have bought the 'wrong' format and now it's obsolete....

I think in time it will take over pretty much the way DVD killed the VHS/PAL format. Won't be nest week or next yr but it will happen.

many thought that Sony would be the one to surrender their blu-ray, harking way back to the beta VHS tape debacle many years ago.

But they failed to note that Sony is a major player in Hollywood; owning studios and controlling thousands and thousands of films.

methinks that much power over content would be more than enough for them to succeed with their blu-ray technology.

Yes. Several manufacturers and vendors have recently climbed on board the Blu-Ray bandwagon, so its eventual success is virtually a done deal.
