Will Divx file format plays in Sony DVD player?

I have few video files which are in Divx and some other in avi format. What I do is I download the file and write it into a plain CD and tries to play it in SONY DVD player expecting it to see the film in TV. But in TV it wont display the film but gives a erro meessage saying "data error" . But some other files i wrote like this has played very nicely in dvd player.. could any one tell me what could eb the issue??

if your dvd player supports divx, then you can play files that have been encoded with it, any that haven't, you need to convert to divx or dvd format
