Will I be charged for using AIM on my t-mobile phone?

I have a samsung Katalyst, and when i bought it, it already had AIM, ICQ, Windows Live, && Yahoo on it. I've used the aim a couple of times, && my sister says that it charges 20 cents per message? Well when i pressed #225# SEND it didn't add to my phone bill. So I'm still a little confused -____- Thanks in advance!
