Will I get in trouble for "hidden-city ticketing"?

If I fly from DTW to PHL on 11/28, it will be about $270. If I fly from DTW to Salisbury, MD with a layover in PHL on the same day, it will be about $160.

Has anyone heard of anyone getting in trouble for doing this? It was written about in the New York Times, and I know it isn't really allowed...

I won't have any checked bags.
