Will I get laughed out of town if I get a wedding cake with a staircase

and/or fountain? Hi girls,

I'm getting married soon and um- yes, I have always wanted one of those cakes with the staircases with the people on it and maybe- hold on- a small fountain. I know it's old-fashioned lol! I priced these cakes and they are not much more expensive from the baker I'm using. I do want my wedding to be modern (no, I am not wearing the big pouf sleeves on the dress :) My question is whether you have seen this AT ALL at any wedding recently and if the cake looked nice. I can totally stick with the more modern layers and flower toppers.

yes, possibly. no one would do it in front of your face, but who's to say. personally i feel that those cakes are very dated, just like the dresses from the 80's with the puffy sleeves. the last time i saw one of those cakes was when i was about 14, i am now 27. it was the norm back then. today cake makers can do SOOOOOOOOOO much more! get creative! copy your dress, or draw one up yourself.....i just don't think the stairs and fountain thing would work. good luck
 
I'm 24 and I love those cakes...the wedding is most important to you and him, so do what you want and let them talk because in the end, only how you two feel will matter. I am getting married September 17th of next year and I will have a fountain...I decided to forgo the stairs; only because we won't need that much cake. In the end I say you and your finance do what makes you two happy and let them hate.
