Recently toshiba announced that it will stop producing HD DVD players. Subsequently it has been going around that blu ray drive prices may drop. Blu ray may defeat itself if it keeps the price of its titles where it is (around 30-40 dollars for normal movies). They would have to lower the price at least five or ten dollars or add something to the format that makes them more worth buying at that price. Has anyone heard anything about whether or not prices will drop to solve this problem?

i do not think that prices will drop anytime soon! just because the blu camp has won the war does not mean price drop, afterall they won the format war with these current prices. When blu ray becomes more mainstream, to the point where everyone has one then prices will come down. Thats how dvd was when it first came out! i remember pay $40 for a dvd movie when it first came out and then when everyone adopted the format prices came down!

Its only natural with consumer electronis for the price to go down, and now that the format war has been settled I think we may see prices begin to drop slowly. yes $30-$40 is the MSRP of most titles, but you can easily find them cheaper. Go to JR music website JR.com and you can find many titles $12-$20, i think you may need to buy 2 to get the special prices, but at that price it is not hard to do! Best Buy also has a sale going on now on Blu-Rays, I think they are $5-$10 off their regular price.
