Will this travel route work USA/Canada - suggestions please!!!!!!!?

In September 2011 my father and his partner are travelling to visit family in new jersey and new york city, my partner and i have been invited along although we are from Australia and want to make the most of our trip. We were going to go from NYC over to London and through parts of Europe but we are now thinking we may stay in the USA and try to see some of that and Canada. I have googled several websites at the "must do/must see" of both USA and Canada. I understand the time we are going is not winter therefore Canada won't have snow etc. but that's ok! All flights from Australia's international airports fly direct to LA so I thought we might as well just start there rather than flying again from LA to NYC. I have looked at maps and sort of figured out a route but I'm not sure if it will work or how we will travel inbetween these places yet so your input would be greatly appreciated!!!!

1. Los Angeles
2. San Fransisco
3. San Diego
4. Miami
5. Orlando
6. The Bahamas
7. Washing DC
8. New Jersey
9. New York City
10. Boston
11. Quebec
12. Ontario
13. Manitoba
14. Alberta
15. British Columbia
16. Seattle
17. Las Vegas
18. Los Angeles (to fly home)

How much time do you think would be needed to do this?

I have tried to look at US tour companies but they dont seem to do the whole shabang they only do small areas for eg; one I saw only does the places around NYC. Is this because its expensive and time consuming to go inbetween places like Florida to NYC?
