Withdrawal bleeding after stopping pills 7 days after Mirena insertion...?

I got my Mirena almost two weeks ago, but since it was not inserted while I was on my period, my gynecologist recommended that I continue to use oral contraceptives for 7 days to insure my Mirena's effectiveness. My question is whether or not it is normal to have a withdrawal bleed (period, I guess) after only taking a partial pill-pack, and with having an IUC. I know that spotting for the first three months is normal, but this is heavy bleeding, like a period.

Any personal/professional experience would be welcome! Thanks!
