Hello Im a 23 yr old college student who recently purchased a 1974 Super Beetle (Sunbug) for college. I had another car but it's gone now. I've wanted one of these cars since I was in a car seat at two years old. It's my dream car. Even after years of research there's alot I would love to learn from this car. The insurance is cheap and so is the parts compared to my 2002 Chrysler Sebring. I love it. But I would like the opinions of those who owns one or has owned one. Now here comes the dilemma. My college is approx. 330 mi away from my home. I lost other car and sternly refuse to buy another car for my own personal reasons. I only want to drive bugs from now on. My first attempt to travel ended tragically on the highway. The car did fine until about halfway there and blow a gasket. The car had a oil leak which caused the belt to slip off and over heat the car. The car has been repaired since then but my enthusiasm hasn't for the one time commute hasn't. My family has thought about renting a uhaul dolly to get it there or following me as I creep up the highway at 55mph. But even so, once I get back to college what would expected of the a Super Beetle as a daily driver? What are some precautions and daily check ups I can do to keep my bug alive?
