Would a crankshaft sensor fault cause my car to just cut out?

Driving along and all of a sudden the car just cuts out, happened to me in the right hand lane of a island, VERY ANNOYING!!!! since then its happened twice more, leave the car for 20 mins and it starts fine, then after bout 20 mins it cuts out again, any ideas???
 
yes it would. when a sensor goes its sending mixed signals back to the main 'brain'. mine did the same when a cam sensor went. I had it replaced and everything was ok again. take it and have it put on a diagnostic so you know the fault code then you can phone around local garages to get the best deal.
