So my horse is an OTTB (been off 6 years, and I've owned her for 4 of them), so she was "taught" flying changes on the track.
I show her in just about everything...Dressage, jumpers, hunters, and eventing.
A long time ago, we worked on her flying changes a bit. She has them very well, I suppose, and they are acceptable for the jumping we do.
I've come to notice for awhile that she often changes over two strides: first in the front, then in the back. And when she's lazy, she'll only change in the front. And even when she changes in one stride, I can definetly feel how she does it on her forehand, and they're often rushed and not collected (i.e. during a jump course).
I'd really like to start working on doing the lead changes correctly--while on her rear.
She is quite decent at dressage, and is ready to show 1st level, though she knows many movements beyond that (solid shoulder-ins and haunches-ins, solid leg-yield, solid transitions walk thru canter and back down, good lengthenings, all while staying decently on her rear; she can become quite collected in her stride length while still moving correctly, and beginning to learn half-pass at the walk), so I think she's definetly ready (if not overdue) to start learning her lead changes correctly.
I recently changed barns though, and am currently without a trainer (though there is a trainer around, who can tell me if I'm going in the right direction)
Do you all have any exercises that I could start working her through, that are sort of prerequisites to doing /back to front/ lead changes?
