Would the ipad 2 be the best option?

I am a uni student and have a good desktop at home (i live at home) to type my papers, internet, music, photos/videos and some gaming.

I was considering buying a portable device (which would be secondary to my desktop) - the ipad 2 rather than a netbook or laptop because i don't type my lecture/tutorial notes and would use it as a student organiser, the onenote app for group work sessions at uni (when it is released in australia?), videos, internet on the go and for travel (to access emails, the camera and small amounts of typing)

would the ipad 2 be the best option or even necessary for my situation?
 
I wouldn't say it's necessary, but the iPad 2 can suit all of those needs you have listed. Just make sure you get the 3G version if you want to use the internet on the go (its a little more expensive than non-3G)
