Lincoln did believe that all blacks should be treated equally but he also said that blacks were inferior people.........Lincoln did not fight the Civil war against the south because of slavery, it was to keep the country united.(Since the south seceded) Lincoln said that if he could keep the country united and free the slaves, he would do it, but if keeping the country together meant keeping the slaves, he would also do it........Would you call Lincoln a racist?
Oh yeah Lincoln siad that if there is place worse than hell im in it. He was not a happy person.

Lincoln had very troubled feelings about the slavery issue. He knew like many people at the time that this was not a good thing but he also knew what turmoil this was causing.

I would not call him a racist at all. In our modern times, anyone is called a racist no matter how falsely that applies. It is said that you cannot judge another time period's people by the current time people's standards and that is true no matter what time period you examine.

People in the future will look back on our current time period and will shake their head in wonder at many of our cultural activities. Keep this in mind when applying labels to anyone and to any other time period.

LIncoln was a very reasonable and sensible man especially for his time. He was a very highly intelligent and a very tenacious person especially for that time. His life was one of constant battle against defeat and depression. Read his history and you will be amazed.
