Nokia 5800 message notification problem?

I have a problem with my 5800. Usually, when you get a text the white light flashes on the front, when you unlock it, you get a message come up and a little message picture in the top right. And in the 'general' setting, it makes a little message tone.

However, recently, whatever profile, be it silent, general, meeting etc, it makes no tune when I receive a message, nor does it come up with a little message when you unlock it. You only know it when you go into your inbox.

I haven't changed any settings for this to happen, it just has. Any ideas what I can do? It's annoying having the check every time.
