Were looking for a new TV and we've found a lot of good deals for the 720p TVs but I heard that having a 1080 makes the world of difference especially for the new bluerays. We just don't want to buy outdated technology.
I have heard that an upconverting dvd player can upconvert a regular dvd to near blue ray quality. If this is true I would like to get one but here is where I'm lost. My TV has a dvi and two component video inputs and is 1080i...not 1080p. I know i can get an adapter from hdmi to my dvi but will...

I was over my friends house, took my ps3 over and he had a 1080p tv, I changed the video settings to automatic and it switched to 1080p. I get home hook up my ps3 and no video shows. Do I have to go back to his 1080 tv and change the settings to custom/ 1080i?

I have another question involving my blu ray. I had recently purchased a Sony BR player and noticed that in some scenes, peoples faces were fuzzy looking and not clear at all. I had never noticed that on a regular dvd. But I did only notice it in the darker scenes.
My TV is 1080i and I am wondering what is better to watch blu-ray with is it 720p or 1080i? Also how would i go about checking to see what it's playing it as on its own? Basically how do I check and see if it's playing it at 1080i, 720p or something else?

It has composite cables slots and everything. Will I be able to change the system settings to say like 720p or 1080i without the HD box. Here is some more info on the tv...
or will it only give me the pic quality with the 1080p so basically i am asking 1080p vs. 1080i will the dvd player give me the quality i want or am i SOL because its an "i"
