The cassette was stepped on & was cracked but the tape inside is still good. Is there a way to fix that?

Are you sure its not just because you are using the tape adapter. With the digital age of CD's and MP3's etc, its easy to forget just how bad quality tapes really are. Do you have another tape player you could try it in and see if it is the same?
