I didn't put a security code on the phone but it asks for it. Now it won't open. It's just a backup phone not my main phone but I want it to become usable.

Ok, so I plan on unlocking a smartphone ( galaxy s3) and I wanted to know if I purchase the code online, will I be able to unlock it that way? Or are there other steps to it?
