i cannot get my motor to start. it will crank but it will not fire

Ok. my sportster will not crank. It will turn over and if I put my hand over the carb it will fire up for a 1-5 seconds after that It's just the sound of the starter. What could cause this?

The starter begins turning as soon as the battery is connected. I thought that this may be a problem with the solenoid, but I replaced the entire starter and still have the problem.

when the motor is hot? i changed my fuel filter and it was black do u think the tank is dirty
