I own a variety store with a debit card machine that I also own, the customer hands me the debit card & i swipe it in my terminal & the customer enters his pin on his terminal, why can the customer not swipe in the hand held terminal that they have. It has a card insert & a swipe for the card>

I just got a Debit card and tried to use it on itunes but it keeps saying my bank won't recognize my card. I have read that you can use it as a credit card but it doesn't seem to be working...Do I have to wait a certain time before it is activated or can I just not use it this way?
