I started at karate at USSD but when I moved to Nebraska they don't have USSD here! Everyone says it is commercial but my experience there was wonderful.... maybe they brain washed me. I tried several other place but didn't like them. Does anyone have any recommendations?

is the only available kenpo karate where I live. Do you have any negative reviews about Kenpo 5.0 and how it differs from American Kenpo Karate, other than it has incorporated a grappling technique?
Thanks
or Kyukushin?
Do kempo artists do katas even in higher belts?
How much time will be needed for it to effective in street self defense when trained regularly (2x a week)

...(see inside)? I am thinking about doing martial art like kempo and if I like it I would like to participate in a tournaments.
But now I am 16 years old, is it too old for achieving something there or not? I know usually everywhere people start very early...
And I know it's really to early...

I don't really know much about either style, just want to know the effectiveness of each for self defense. I plan on checking out both dojos, but would appreciate any info anyone has on these. I want to reiterate the fact that I want to learn something for strictly self defense, not sport.
Was kempo also developed in Japan? Is it a Japanese sport? Because I wanted to join a karate class because A. I like the style and B. I love Japanese culture and wanted to do something japanese. So is it the same thing?
