i clicked in into the slot on my phone and it doesnt do it automatically, so what do i do??

The reason I ask this is because I forgot my password and I've tried everything! I even went to the Verizon store, but they couldnt help. So I'm now wondering if I can maybe hard reset it to where it wont be locked anymore?

Whenever i try to reply to a text, forward a text, or start a new text the phone freezes and shows the verizon startup screen. Do i need to hard reset or what?
