I just got a Nokia N79 and find out that you can't use smiley's (emoticons) in the text messages. Can this be fixed somehow?

when i turn off the accelerometer everytime i access the photo album it always goes to landscape mode. if it turn on the accelerometer i can view it in portrait when i hold it upright. is there a way to view it in portrait when the accelerometer is OFF ?
