I need to get my vhs movies on the computer, and i know that i can either buy a dvd/vcr combo recorder, or use a capturing device. However im only interested in quality. What is the best option?

Is it a good idea to make sell my vhs tapes after copying them on dvd ?

I have a camcorder that likes to eat tapes now. I have a box full of old mini-dv tapes with no way to view or transfer them. Is there any other device, inexpensive and not the camcorder, that can play back or possibly transfer my mini-dv tapes?
I am getting ready to move and so I am packing things up in boxes and trying to store as much as possible in the garage. Will storing tapes and DVDs in the garage damage them in any way?

it will be harder to edit? i use it for filming skating. and a friend told me that it will be way harder to edit my footage using the dvd disks instead of tapes. is that true? and is there an easy way to edit clips on the disks?
