widescreen

My TV is a 39" Samsung 1080p. Why are there two black stripes when Im watching Blue Ray at the top and bottom like it's widescreen? Can this be changed?

I don't have a widescreen display and want it off. I want it to fill the whole screen. Is this possible?

Basically, I'm trying to display from my sony vaio laptop (windows 7) at widescreen resolution (which the laptop is normally). But when I connect the laptop up to the monitor via VGA, the resolution options change to the standard 800x600 and 1024x768 with no widescreen options available. Then...

As title states my monitor on my desktop and in game will randomly shift to the left cutting off a bit of the icon text... but then shift back...sometimes...and then i have to hit auto/set and it fixes it...but i hope i dont have to do this every time. I am hoping that you guys will help me...

OK so my PS3 plays blue ray but its just on one side of the TV....its not even at the center it always go to the top left corner....I have a Panasonic HD Lifi 1080p 61 inch....Although when i play games and stuff its normal its only when i watch blue ray movies....then it goes to the top left...

I was given a 'fullscreen' DVD. Will there be black bars on the sides of the screen if I watch it? Or will it still work correctly?
