Christ.” Ghandi? Okay so my friend put this on her status on messenger. It was probably about me, because I go to church and religious education and talk about it and everything.

She hasn't said it exactly, but I know she thinks I'm a hypocrite because I go to church but I talk about hating people or gossip about them. Well I'm still learning, right? And it's amazingly hard to forgive people. I'm trying to be a good Christian but some things slip, you know? Not a single one of us Christians are perfect.

Can someone please give me some insight on this quote? And on what to do in this situation?
This "best friend" is always hating on my religion, ever since she watched a documentary on an Athiest man. Also, her father is Athiest and her mother went to Christian school but gave up Christianity for her husband. My friend once said that she would go to church if it wasn't so early. But she gets up at 7am in the morning just to go on her online game! She also said that the Bible was all made up by crazy people.

Someone please help, I'm losing my faith too. And what should I do? Ask her about it? Tell her? Not be friends with her anymore?

the people saying that Gandhi did not understand christians or christianity is wrong he spent many years in England and understood it perfectly well
..
to understand this quote properly you must think of it in the context in which it was spoken
His country had been colonized by the english (who did not treat the Indian people well to put it mildly )
so what he was saying is the english Christians who ruled over them at that time were a bunch of hypocrites preaching one thing and behaving in a way that was the total opposite of what being a Christian is all about
which is treating all others with tolerance compassion and kindness

I just want your friend to know that NOBODY is Perfect. Many Christians try to become like Christ. ... Christ is Perfect!! .. Humans are sinners .. and they arent perfect, but they try to obey Gods word.

It means almost the same thing as the following one below:

Please God, protect me from your followers.

Bottomline is, many Christians aren't nice people.

You have a lot of ideas in there. Here are some thoughts:

Christians (and all people) are indeed imperfect. Each day, I try to be the best person I can be. And each day, like you, I make mistakes that I regret. In Christianity, we believe that God forgives us if we simply have the courage to ask for it. So don't be so hard on yourself. In fact, I've found that the more I ask for forgiveness, the more I am able to overcome my imperfections.

Gandhi is a hero of mine. He was deeply connected to the Spirit/to God, and because of this, he was able to fight for the Independence of India while still loving his oppressors. Still, what do you do when you meet a Christian filled with anger and hatred, or who is judgmental? In other words, what do you do when you see a Christian who is not very Christ-like? What Gandhi is saying is Christianity is not the problem; it's how some Christians incorrectly interpret what Christ is all about.

Last thing: in times of confusion, return to spiritual practice. Pray, read the Bible, serve those in need. With a clear head and a peaceful heart, all the challenges you are facing will seem a lot less daunting. Peace to you and your friends.

haha, your faith isn't very strong if you're losing it over this. i like the gandhi quote, it's an interesting thing to think about. but since she doesn't seem to respect your religion, you should talk to her about it and tell her how it makes you uncomfortable. but don't try to convert her either-- try to show your tolerance and ask for tolerance in return. and try not to hate anyone or gossip about them-- it's really mean!

You need to look at what that quote means.

Ghandi is saying acting like Jesus did was a testament of the man himself. To be christ-like is something everyone should aspire to. However, to him and to me as well, christians care more about salvation for themselves than acting christ-like. At least the Catholics are called to do good works in the world.

Too many people preach and not enough people strive to do good on the world, if you really want a better place to live, start by taking care of it and those that live there.

That is what Ghandi was saying.

You don't have to lose you faith, but being good is a lot more than just going to church and praying, it's about doing good and trying to improve the lives of others as well as your own. Teaching them "good-word" hardly does this.

Next time someone asks you for change, buy him a meal. He is hungry, the last thing on his mind would be how Lot's wife was turned to a pillar of salt.

God said not to be yolked with unbelievers simply because this kind of thing happens. you shouldn't lose your faith because of people. if you want to grow stronger in Christ....stop gossiping and claiming you hate people. also, if you feel the need, find a new friend. if you feel uncomfortable...the best thing to do is talk to her.

EIDT---also..i could care less what Ghandi thinks or thought of me and my faith...he's not going to judge me.

What Gandhi meant was : Christ is a good person, don't judge, love everyone so on and so on, but he doesn't like the christans because the ones you always hear about, or have met are the exact opposite of the Christ's teachings.
I think what she's trying to tell you is make sure that she knows if she ever wants to talk or learn more about god that you're there for her. Don't preach her to death you'll only shove her farther away.
Trust me from personal experience about the preaching to death. Good Luck Friend.

It is important to distinguish between Christianity and christendom.
Christendom is a sick counterfeit copy of the original.
By christendom, it is meant Catholicism and Protestantism.
They have done more harm than good to the word: Christianity.
They have taught hell fire and torment.
False.
They have taught trinity.
False.
They have taught immortal soul.
False.
They have taught all good go to heaven.
False.
The basic teachings of Christ are superior, but those religions have brought shame upon it.

If only ghandi knew of 'yahshua'...he probably would have converted.

The name was changed to deceive the masses.

Gandhi was a sinner too. And that quote shows that Gandhi didn't understand Jesus or Christians.

Jesus is sinless and perfect.

Christians are still sinners, and will fail.

If Gandhi died without having believed in Jesus for salvation, then Gandhi is in eternal torment in hell right now.

The truth about Jesus is that the only way to be saved and to get into heaven and avoid being sent to eternal hell, is by believing in Jesus for salvation, believing in faith alone that Jesus, who is God, died on the cross for all our sins as FULL PAYMENT for all our sins, and then Jesus rose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). Believe in Jesus alone for salvation, and you will be in heaven, no matter what!

Jesus is God, and Jesus loves you so very much! :D

Salvation is a FREE GIFT that happens in a split second when you believe in Jesus alone to save you! It is impossible to lose or "leave" salvation (John 6:39-40, John 10:28, 1 John 5:13).

Please pray now: "Jesus, I believe that You died on the cross to pay for my sins and that You rose from the dead, and I thank You for eternal life!" You will be in heaven with Him forever when you die! :D
