Hey guys. The situation is this. I am looking to buy a handgun that my wife will be willing to learn to handle. Jumping right into a .45 is not something I wish to try, for fear of discouragement on her part. A .22 would be a fine learning tool, but this gun will be for home defense. I have settled on 9mm for it's ease to shoot combined with its decent power and low cost. A 1911 frame feels very good in my hands. Very natural. I do know that there are 9mm 1911s out there, but I would like to know if anyone has any recommendations on the subject. Compacts are fine, but 5" preferred. Thanks.
Thanks for the responses. To Tahoe, I hated the feel of the beretta. I hear good things about the browning, but have yet to try it out. I shall do so ASAP. To Middletown, a revolver has been on my mind for many of the reasons you listed. Specifically, a K/L frame in .357. I would chamber a 38 for her tho. I had considered a small frame with enclosed hammer for extra simple use and ease of pulling from concealed carry, but hate the feel. I have very large hands, and I'm trying to find the right "natural" feel for me. She only recently shot for the first time, and I can tell she has an ever growing interest. I just want something good for me that will also help get her over her fear of handguns.
Thanks for the recommendations. I will add the SIG to my list to try out. I did test out a Kimber actually. It was great all around except the cost haha. I would prefer to stay within $750. I also believe that my wife could handle whatever she needed to if she or my children were in danger. But it was still good food for thought on middletowns part. I am open to all opinions and suggestions.
@matt, this gun is still mainly for me. I am shopping for a handgun that will get my wife interested enough to get one for herself. She has a budding interest, but the confidence in herself is still lacking. That is why I am focused on the feel for me, but the useability for her.
