I have an 1984 Chevy C10 305 V8 with dual tanks, I've recently switched to the right tank I.e. The left isn't in use anymore because it seemed to have given nothing but trouble. My question is about my gas gauge, it will not work the needle is pass the full line. I had this problem before I switched to the right tank. I've even replaced the whole cluster with a second hand one from the salvage yard, it still continues to do the same thing. What could be the cause of this, also I once was fiddling around behind the cluster and twisted the line connecting to the fuel gauge and it read half a tank but then moved past the full line again. I would sincerely appreciate any help with this. I've had it in two shops who haven't been able to correct this problem. I do not know what to do next. I've seen the dakota clusters but I don't want to spend $600 bucks just to get my gas gauge working.
