Just recently put new distributor in. found top dead center and alined the rotor with the cap. Now when I try to start the truck it pops through the carb or backfires through the exhaust. When it poped through the carb I moved the distributor a hair and it backfires through the exhaust? ANY IDEAS HELPFUL! I also adjusted the air/fuel mix screw.

you line up marks on front pulley and line up rotor button with number one wire you should have also check to make sure number one was up or down could hav ebeen either way and most likey you put it 180 out so now redo it line up bottom marks remove cap find number one you remove plug and eithe rlook into cyl or poke a screwdrive in it to feel if piston is up or not if not bump it over one more time an dline it up again then remove distributer an dreplace it right realyeasy to miss it the first time doing it you have to rememebr that there is a down stroke and a up you want to up your backwards from what it should be you could guess but id just start over an dif you need to just crank it by hand or bump it with starter to lin eit all back up

Just a thought... the mark on the crank shaft pulley, was it the notch or the faint line about 45 degrees after the notch that you aligned as tdc. sometimes the faint line is covered by grease or dirt.
