oki have a 1988 chevy 1500 with a 5.7 350 what kind of rear end could i put on it? i want a posi trac rear end

gm 12 bolt with an aftermarket posi setup, and like 3.42 gears....3.73 is the lowest id go with the gears

well I can tell you that true posi is sort of a waste of money now since you can have a torsen style LSD that will never wear out clutch packs.

Look at a detroit Truetrac for your LSD, also old zexel-torsen diffs can be found in camaros and other cars if you're on a budget

You'd need to start with what you have now... do you have a 10bolt? These are cheap and a dime a dozen, you'll be able to find one on craigslist or locally used. Is this just a stock or mild 350? Also plan on the ring &pinion gear you want. 3.73-4.11 are generally good gears for something like what you're looking at, but you may want less (or possibly more) gearing

If you already have the rear you're looking at about 1200-1500$ for a shop to swap the diff and rear gears. You can do it yourself for around 800$ with new parts, much less with used parts, but I don't recommend it if you haven't done it before

^^^12 and 14 bolts are more expensive. newer 8.6 10 bolts will take more abuse than he's ever going to dish out with a 350 small block.
....Don't have your heart set on a buying a G80 and it actually working, those clutches are likely long gone in any old used rear. Just swap for a torsen style and forget about it, you get what you pay for
