1988 Mazda: intermittent ignition cut-out at low speeds. Any ideas?

I have a 1988 Mazda 323, so it does not have much in emission controls. It has been cutting out at idle, but also for a few seconds at low speeds. This does not happen all the time, but is getting worse. The 'cut out' is perfectly smooth, like I had turned off the ignition - no kicks or bumps or sputtering. It comes back on just as smoothly, unless the car's speed is very low. Then it stops, again very smoothly. I only 'notice' that the accelerator no longer works, and then notice the engine and oil lights are on: that it has stopped.

Thank you for any ideas!

could be anything from you loosing spark, could just be a bad connection, to carb issues. idk alot about late 80s mazdas. sorry. maybe timing? idk nvm i tried.

it might be a vacuum hose has a leak. that kinda thing happened to me it was hard to pin point but its easy as changing out a hose once you find it. look for loose or cracked black tubing
