evertime i turn the truck on, even tojust accesory, it pops the fuse labeled "guage/idle" and everytime that fuse pops it stops the alernator from charging, even though the alernator is good. does anyone know what that fuse operates, so i can check each thing for the short?

the first thing you should do is make sure the right amperage of fuse is in it.

Check out Autozone's free online repair manual. It offers wiring diagrams in the chassis electrical section.

Good Luck

Get yourself a Haynes repair manual for that vehicle. Inside you can find the electrical schematic for that particular circuit. You should be able to tell what other things share that circuit. You can then try disconnecting everything from the circuit then energize the circuit. If the fuse still blows out then you probably have a wire shorted against a sharp metal edge somewhere. If it doesn't blow, connect each disconnected component one at a time until the fuse blows again. That's where the short is. The only thing about this method is you may end up buying a lot of fuses.

You can always probe the circuit with a battery powered continuity tester while the circuit is disconnected from the car battery. This way you won't be buying a lot of fuses. If the tester lights, when checking the circuit to ground, you still have a short. No light means no short.

If you haven't done much circuit testing with test equipment, I may have confused the heck out of you. But I hope this helped.
