1994 Honda Civic LSI problem?

Hi folks! I have a Honda Civic LSI, M reg (1994) with manual transmission. I was having a problem with the idle air control valve which I replaced, and now it is idling nicely. Since sorting this out I have encountered a new problem. Every time i brake and change gear, say for example coming up to a roundabout or junction, the idle speed drop dramatically to 0 or just above and the car stalls unless i quickly up the revs again. It does this mainly when changing down into 2nd gear, sometimes 1st and 3rd. Also, occasionally when trying to accelerate off, the car kind of 'kangaroo jumps' for a few seconds, hesitates and then flys off with no further probs until that dreaded gear change. I was thinking along the line of maybe a problem with the fuel injection system? The air filter etc were all done along with the idle air control valve.

What I would like to know is, firstly is my car idling at the correct speed? (it now idles at a constant 1000rpm,since fitting the new valve) or will i have to tweak it? Also anyone know what this problem could be when braking and changing gear? I am going to take the car in for diagnostics when I have managed to save a bit of money, but thought i would ask you guys first to see if i can solve the problem myself! I have a Haynes manual but it doesn't really say alot about my type of problem (probably because I don't know what I am looking for!)

Thanks in advance!
