I have a 95 eclipse gsx turbo awd with the 2.0 dohc mitsubishi engine. I just noticed the other day while tinking under the hood of it that one of the camshafts seemed to be doing something weird. First off, the car runs and drives fine, no hesitation or loss of power. Where the upper plastic timing belt cover was supposed to be there is nothing so the whole top half of the timing area is open to see. The belt looks pretty worn, but it is not shredding anywhere or ripping apart. I pushed down on the belt to see if there was any play in it and there seems to be more play then there should be. Then just for s&g I attempted to see if either crankshaft pulley would move counter clockwise and the one nearest the the firewall would move advance up to two teeth. The front camshaft wont budge but i was wondering why this would happen and what i got to do to fix it. I stopped driving it because its an interfierence engine and i dont feel like putting a new engine in it. I am not sure if its a worn out tensioner or a stretched belt or something else, maybe someone else has had this issue and can tell me wether or not it is normal or not. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!

The 4g63 was designed with adjustable gearing, that isnt good, tighten that sprocket down, change the timing belt and water pump. All in all itll only cost around 400 dollars at a reputable shop and it will give you peace of mind.

Well worth it for such an amazing car.
