Ok, here is the deal. I own a 1996 Buick Regal 3.8L V6. We recently had a water pump go out on us. When the water pump finally got to the point of COMPLETE and UTTER failure suddenly there was a shifting issue. The transmission would go into Drive without fail, but would at times need to be 'Jiggled' to get into reverse (Intermittentently). This was annoying, but a minor inconvenience and we saw it as something possibly related to the Water Pump death. After taking it into the shop to get some service, ie: Water Pump, Thermostat, Serpentine Belt, Plugs, and Wires The problem got slightly worse. Now the car won't shift into reverse without said 'Jiggling' and then shortly after that any gear without some moderate 'Jiggling'. At this point I was absolutely BAFFLED! I have owned MANY cars and I usually fix them myself. Although with the loss of my heated garage and Theft of ALL of my tools I have required the service of Shops.
I REALLY don't want to put to much more money into this car. I have searched and found a couple possibilities but I am hoping to get a fresh take on what the cause could be.
Thanks in advance, LeeZ
Sorry I wasn't clear and I just realized what I forgot to mention. Now when I go to shift the car It feels as though there is Load put on the transmission ie going into gear, however the car will not move. The cable appears to be attached at the transmission and is moving freely. The Transmission 'Sounds' as though it is engaging although the vehicle will not advance in reverse or drive.
Also the PRNDL has always been slightly off which makes me consider a possible linkage just being off...
