1997 Audi A4 Quattro hard to start and stalls once you get under 1000 RPMS?

The past couples days my Audi A4 has been hard to start or stalls if it goes below 1000 RPMs or when you slowdown for a stop sign or stoplight. Also it smells flooded sometimes as well.
