1997 Mercedes-Benz C-Class 230 has 304K?

I am looking for a cheap car to transport myself to work and school from home. I saw a 1997 benz C-class 230 sedan for $1500 with 304,000kms. I dont know too much about cars but is this car worth the money?

A girl currently owns this and car looks decent. No dents, scratches, very clean, etc.
I want to know if it will last me a year without any issues or not?
 
You might be better off in a 10 year old Japanese Car with lower than 100K miles. Have a look at Honda, Toyota, Mazda, Infinity, etc and compare values. Watch out for the cost of insurance on the fancy cars.
 
Not too bad but it is older and Mercedes are expensive to maintain and fix if something happens.
